Before moving to Florida in 2015, he played club water polo and was president of the Chicago Apostles for a number of years. During high school he met Barbara Brewer who later became his wife and was the love of his life. He married his first wife Gertrude Culpepper and had two daughters, Celeste and Adrianne.
